Birla Mandir, also known as Satyanarayana swamy aalayam, is constructed by Birlas and is one of the oldest of Birla Mandir(s) in India. It is opened on Sunday 10, February 1957. This temple is also one of the oldest temple in Kurnool District and of historical importance. Built with Kota stone brought from Agra and Jaisalmer, marble from Rajasthan, Sandstone sourced from Vindhya ranges, this temple follows architecture style that evident across Birla Mandirs in India.
Kanchi Paramacharya Pujya Sri Chandrasekharandha Saraswathi has stayed in the temple for 3 days along with his juniors Pujya Sri Jayendra Saraswathy Swamiji and Pujya Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji, during their stay at Kurnool in the year 1983 while completing their chathurmasya Deeksha in Kurnool. Swamy Chinmayanandaji has conducted geetha gnana yagna thrice in the temple. Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham peetadhipathi , Sri Vidyaranya mahaswamy of hampi peetham visited this temple.
Main Deity is Swamy Narayaranan in main girba gruha with Lord Shiva and Lord Surya Narayana is separate gurba gruhas.
Lord Narayanan, Goddess Lakshmi and Hanuman (marble stone) are consecrated in main Gurbha griha in north indian style. Lord Lakshmi Nayaranan is revered by devotees as Satya Narayana Swamy.
Suprabhatham, Arachana conducted every day morning. Satya Narayana Swamy vratham is regular religious activity at this temple on auspicious days and poornima (full moon day).
Satya Narayana Swamy Kalayanam will be conducted every year on Magha Suddha Dasami.
Sri Bhavani Sankara (Lord Siva), along with Goddess Parvathi, Lord Vigneshwara, Sri Subramanya swamy and Nandhi is consecrated on the right side of main girbha griha.
Siva Abhishekam, performed every day morning. Archana is performed during the day. On Maha Shivarathri, Special Abhishekam and Shiva kalyanam during lingodhbava kaalam(1 am to 3 am) are performed in Magha masam.
Lord Surya Narayana swamy is consecrated on the left side main girbha griha. The idol of Surya Narayana swamy is brought from Sangameswaram (many temples at Sangameswaram were submerged when Srisailam Dam is constructed. Some temples and idols were re-located to different places around Kurnool. Mythology has it that this idol is consecrated by Bhima when Pandavas performed rituals at sangameswaram).
Surya Naryana Swamy Mahabhishekam is performed on Ratha Sapthami every year. On every Sunday, Abhishekam is performed.
